The Flugzeugmaschinengewehr MG 81 is a German 7.92mm air machine gun, developed at the Mauser in 1938. From 1940, it replaced the MG15 and MG17 rifles. It served primarily in the defensive positions of German bombers and observation aircraft. The MG81 was a definite improvement over its predecessors - it had a better rate of fire and could be powered by ammunition belts. The MG81Z (Zwiling) version was developed relatively quickly, being a dual MG81 with a single trigger actuation. Over time, the MG81Z was also used by field Luftwaffe units. In total, about 46,000 of these weapons of all versions were created. Technical data: length: 91.5 cm, caliber: 7.92 mm, combat weight (MG81Z): 12 kg, theoretical rate of fire: 1600 spins / min., Projectile speed: 706-790 m / s.
