Ishiyama-dera Ta-hoh-toh is a pagoda located in the city of Otsu, Shiga Prefecture on the island of Honshu in central Japan. The building is an important element of the temple complex called Ishiyama-dera, which was erected around 750 AD and, according to the legend, it was erected on the initiative of a Buddhist monk named Ryoben. Within the complex there are many important cultural monuments and sources written for the history of Japan and China, including, above all, original fragments of the so-called Great history records (also known as Shiji). On the other hand, the pagoda itself was built at the end of the 12th century (around 1195) and is - in terms of architecture - a specific Japanese development of the traditional Buddhist stupa. It is also the first pagoda in the history of Japanese architectural art built in such a style and manner. Even for this reason, it was entered on the list of National Cultural Monuments in Poland.
