The Macchi MC 205 Veltro (Italian greyhound) is an Italian, single-engine, metal low-wing fighter from the Second World War. The flight of the prototype took place in April 1942. Mass production started in the same year and continued until 1944, ending with the production of 262 copies. The MC205 is a modification of the MC202 aircraft, consisting mainly in the replacement of the power unit with the Daimler-Benz DB.605 engine with a capacity of 1475KM and a significant reinforcement of the armament. The MC205 turned out to be a very successful aircraft, comparable to the Me-109G or Spitfire Mk.IX. Unfortunately, the problems of Italian industry in the declining phase of the war prevented larger mass production. Technical data: length: 8.85m, wingspan: 10.58m, height: 3.05m, maximum speed: 640km / h, maximum range: 950km, maximum ceiling 11500m, armament: fixed - 2 Breda-SAFAT machine guns cal. 12.7mm and two 20mm MG151 cannons, suspended - up to 320 kg of bombs.
