The Vickers Vimy was a British heavy bomber in a solid wood structure biplane structure from World War I and the interwar period. The drive was provided by two motors Rolls-Royce Eagle VII with 360 HP each. The prototype flight took place in 1917. During serial production, which lasted in the years 1918-1919, about 230 copies of this aircraft were made. They were armed with two 7.7 mm Lewis machine guns and up to 1123 kg of bombs.
The Vickers Vimy was created as a new strategic bomber of the British Air Force, which focused primarily on the highest possible load capacity of the bombs. Due to numerous tests of the machine with different engines, serial production did not start until 1918, and Vickers Vimy airplanes did not manage to take part in World War I - they entered the line only in 1919, remaining there only until 1925, when they were replaced by Vickers Virginia planes. However, they were used to train pilots until 1933. The Vickers Vimy bomber also became famous as the machine on which the first uninterrupted flight over the Atlantic from Newfoundland to Ireland was made. This flight took place in June 1919.
